CHAPTER THE FIFTH - The Lesson

1. And so the sacred Amicete continued on his solitary way through the forest, deep in contemplation. His musings so occupied him that he did not observe the rapid fall of night and presently found himself in a strange part of the forest in the gathering darkness, lost.

2. Seeing from afar the glimmer of a friendly campfire the holy one hastened towards it, eager for the companionship of his fellow man at last. There sat about the fire some five or six jovial fellows engaged in merry conversation who welcomed Amicete and invited him to join them.

3. Gladly he partook of their victuals and sweet liquor and they talked long into the night. Amicete blessed the assembled company with his enlightened utterances on diverse topics, concluding with a discourse on the greatness of man's love for his fellow man and the virtue of generosity, particularly that of those there present, until finally falling into gentle slumber. [Scribe's note: Sadly it is believed that this discourse, surely destined to be a cornerstone of the faith, did not survive in written form].

4. The holy one awoke in the grey dawn to an empty clearing, great agonies of the head and an empty purse. He spake thus: "Urrghhh".

5. Amen.
